$119 from apple store on 'black friday'.

first impressions: why didn't I get one of these sooner. to whoever created 'solo star', thanks, I love it.

horrible spider death

two hours into a MASSIVE cave exploration, pockets bulging with iron, coal, some gold, i start to run out of arrows and pork and think it's time to get the hell out of there. i get jumped by a spider outta nowhere. it pushes me down into some water that is flowing towards lava. i keep calm. the water isn't flowing too fast. i push against the current and head towards a safe bit of rock i can see. i'm almost there. then the spider spider leaps, wwf style, down onto my head. i'm dead. all my loot flows gently downstream into the lava.

what's the deal with minecraft

if you're still wondering what the deal is with minecraft, this guy explains it pretty well. warning, long-ish.

if you just watch the 'hey, i built a full scale model of the enterprise' or 'look, a 16 bit computer built with redstone' videos that get circulated around then you might get the wrong idea. these are not the point really. the true beauty of minecraft is in the emotional responses it inspires. the thrill of exploration and discovery. the sense of unlimited possibility. the immensity, beauty and uniqueness of the world. the constant fear. the satisfaction you get from surviving and then thriving. the best minecraft experiences do not make interesting youtube videos.
